The Bayazıtoğlu brand traces its roots to an epic journey that began with the Turks in Central Asia and extended to Doğubayazıt. Al’i İskender Bey, a distinguished leader from the Oghuz tribes, played a prominent role in the prosperity of his region. In 1514, his support for Sultan Selim I during the Çaldıran campaign secured him a lasting place in history.
Recognized for his leadership, Al’i İskender Bey was personally invited to Sultan Selim’s tent — a rare honor that was crowned by the gift of vast lands in Maraş, Göksun, Andırın, and Pazarcık. This generous gesture was further reinforced when he was granted the distinguished title of Çavuşbaşı, the highest military rank of the region, which marked the family’s settlement in Maraş.
Over time, Al’i İskender Bey’s descendants, the Bayazıtoğlu family, assumed vital responsibilities in ensuring peace and security in the region. Through their contributions during critical moments of history, they became guardians of community welfare.
During the Turkish War of Independence, the Bayazıtoğlu family played a crucial role in the liberation of Kahramanmaraş. Their efforts not only supported freedom but also made the family name known across wider circles. Beyond leadership, they left their mark on trade and urban development, while their foundations and mosques became symbols of the region’s spiritual and cultural growth.
Institutions and landmarks such as the Hacı Abdullah Bey Foundations, Bayezid Mosque, the Bayazıtoğlu Kalender Paşa and Ahmed Paşa Foundations, İskender Bey (Acemli) Mosque, and the Salihiye Mosque stand as lasting monuments to their contributions.
In the Republican era, members of the Bayazıtoğlu family migrated to various cities across Turkey, adopting different surnames under the Surname Law. The branch of the family that settled in Kayseri took the surname Özcan, and continued to serve the nation in fields such as commerce, science, and public service. Over generations, the family produced distinguished figures including generals, marshals, ministers of health, members of parliament, prosecutors, governors, professors, doctors, engineers, and lawyers — contributing significantly to society in many spheres.
